We will be collecting deposit checks which will be held and then returned or destroyed when the uniforms are returned. Please make out two checks to Redwood Cross Country for $100 each, post-dated to Dec 31st, 2023 and give it to your athlete to bring to uniform handout day. One check covers the top and shorts and the other the team jacket. Uniforms will be distributed at practice only to those athletes that have turned in a deposit check. Running Shoes: Please buy ‘real’ running shoes, Nike Pegasus, Adidas SolarGlide, Asiscs Excite. No Nike Free Runs or alike, these shoes cause injury. SRRC & Arch Rival offer discounts on shoes and are doing special nights to give our athletes discounts Spikes/Flats: New Athletes please do not buy flats or spikes until speaking with a coach or until attending "Spike Night" to get more information. Team Donations: We will also be collecting donations at the parent meeting. Any and all amounts are greatly appreciated. Please make checks out to Redwood Cross Country. These pay for, programs like XC Stats, team t-shirts given to athletes, team hotel rooms, shade covers, training equipment, coaches training, awards, etc. Team Parent Tips: Great things to bring to meets: Chairs or towels to sit on, sunscreen, layers, hats, water, snacks, for YOU and your runner. These can be long events, invitationals can last all day, and league meets 4 hours. Please help runners remember things like EPI pens ( lots of meet sites have bee's/hornets and lots of foods with nuts that kids don't always think before eating). The pop-up tents we bring are for athletes and are meant to create a focused space, we usually bring tarps as well but towels are recommended for athletes to sit on, especially so they can roll and stretch out. If space allows and we have an extra pop up a parent can volunteer to bring for parent use. PARENT COMMENTS/SUGGESTIONS FOR MEETS
Meets: Athletes show up 90 minutes before their race or as early as directed. Athletes need to be focused while they are at the course, they made need to put on shoe tags, bib numbers, or write their athlete number on their arm, they are responsible for warming up with their team, not alone. After their warm-up run athletes change into flats if they are being used for racing, meet with their coach or team captain to do a race plan talk, and then report to the finish line. After racing its very important that athletes do not collapse, they should stay moving, sip some water, get some high fives and hugs and head out on their cool down run. After their cooldown athletes should clean up and consolidate all of their stuff. At the end of all races, the team cleans up and then has a meeting to recap the races, and then athletes are dismissed. Athletes may not leave an event until the entire team is done competing, clean up is over and the team meeting has concluded. This is a big part of our team culture, we are one team boys and girls, Frosh, JV, and Varsity. We are Giants. - While our team culture and philosophy will stay the same, COVID safety rules may change some physical practices). That's if for now! Go GIANTS!!!!! |
