PArent information
Parent Zoom Meeting:
Pre Season Jan 19th @ 6pm
During Season March 1st @ 6:30pm
Tryouts/Cuts/Club Athletes:
- The track and field team strives to be a no-cut sport, but if we have too many athletes’ cuts may be made before the first meet 3/5, cuts will also be made anytime due to missed practices, bad attitude, or failure to be a good teammate. Tryouts are every day the week of Feb 7th. All athletes not finishing a varsity winter sport must be present.
- Any athletes doing club Track and Field must stop as of 2/7 due to CIF rules.
- Any athletes competing in other club sports (soccer/rugby/swim) must be able to make all 4 league meets, our 3/5 meet, and all MCAL/NCS/Meet of Champ meets and invitationals that you qualify for. Athletes doing club sports whose practice times interfere with Track and Field practice must talk in person to Coach G about whether their schedule conflicts will allow them to be on the team or not.
Uniform Hand out 2/27 or 28:
For your child to get a uniform they should bring 2 checks written to RHS Track and Field for $100.00. These checks will NOT be cashed unless the uniform and the jacket is not returned by the final uniform handout date. One check covers the cost of a lost uniform and the other a lost jacket. These checks can also be donated at the end of season to the team account to buy equipment/shirts/stickers. We use this so we can replace uniforms that aren't turned in. Everyone must wear a team issued uniform at meets.

Rides:
Redwood does not provide buses to meets. We have 2 league away meets and various invitationals. It is very important that in carpools everyone is masked and follows COVID protocols. We attempt to help organize carpools at practice by asking kids who has room in their cars and pairing teammates up. Carpools can get your child to a league meet but parents are responsible for picking their child up from meets or arranging a ride home. Invitationals we will attempt to help athletes find rides but once athletes are pair with someone they must make all their arrangements.
Meet Tips & Rules:
Please wear only our team colors to meets. Red, White, Black or Grey. At league meets athletes must stay for the entire meet and support their teammates if you have an exceptional circumstance please talk to Coach Graydon before the meet date. Please help your student athlete remember to wear layers to meets and bring SNACKS and water. Athletes need to layer up before the meet, between events, and after the meet. Parents are encouraged to bring themselves snacks and layers, meets are awesome to watch but long and the weather tends to switch multiple times a meet. Parking is very limited at certain meets (4/21 especially). Please plan to drop off athletes and possibly have to park a solid walk away.
Injuries:
Please encourage your kids to talk to us as soon as they feel like something is going on. Working this hard comes with soreness but our goal is to have uninjured athletes. We do some many exercises geared towards strength and injury prevention. We also have an athletic trainer on campus to help and want to keep everyone running safely. Athletes should be following post practice recovery plans, eating enough food, drinking water and getting enough sleep to stay injury free as well.
Nutrition:
We give athletes guidance about what to eat on meet days at practice. We steer them away from dairy, things with a lot of sauce or spice and hard to digest foods and towards protein rich mornings, carbohydrates, and hydration during meet days. The team has organized team dinners the night before meets in the past, usually splitting into girls distance, boys distance, girls sprint/field and boys sprint/field just due to size. These are usually captain organized and hosted at team member's houses, hopefully these will be possible again if things improve during season with COVID. These are full of pasta, veggies and some yummy treats and lots of water drinking.
Grades:
Student athletes must have above a 2.0 to be on the team at each grading quarter.
Question Protocol:
Most details for the season can be found on this site. Otherwise parents should first ask their athlete any questions they have. The athlete should attempt to find the answer on the site, with teammates and then with their coaches. Please understand that as a coach and teacher I get more emails than I can handle, please attempt another avenue first before emailing me.
