Uniform Deposits: Every year we have uniforms go missing and they are expensive to replace! We will be collecting deposit checks which will be held and then returned or destroyed when the uniforms are returned. Please make out one check to Redwood Track and Field for $100 predated to June 1, 2020 and give it to your athlete to bring to uniform handout day. Uniforms will be distributed at practice only to those athletes that have turned in a deposit check.
Uniforms will be handed out the week of March 2nd.
Running Shoes: Please buy ‘real’ running shoes, Nike Pegasus, Adidas SolarGlide, Asiscs Excite. No Nike Free Runs or alike, these shoes cause injury.
Spikes: New Athletes please do not buy spikes until speaking with a coach or until attending "Spike Night" on March 5th 6-7:30 at San Francisco Running Club in San Anselmo - 115 Tunstead Ave. - 10% discount
Team Donations: We will also be collecting donations at the parent meeting. Any and all amounts are greatly appreciated. Donations pay for team shirts, entires into invitationals, and supplies. Please make checks out to Redwood Cross Country.
That's if for now!
Go GIANTS!!!!!
Parent Letter 3/1/2020
Dear Track and Field Families,
Welcome to the 2020 Redwood Track and Field Team. We are off to an amazing start. We have so many talented and dedicated athletes out for the team this year, about 170 which is one of the biggest teams in Redwood Track history. This is a long email but has so much information that will help you navigate this season so please read on.
All information for this season can be found at our team website:
www.RedwoodXCTrackandField.weebly.com
Click the Track and Field link and you can find our schedule, meet information and flyers, parent information, volunteer sign-ups and more.
We are having a parent information night Tuesday, March 3rd at 7pm in the CEA.
Spike Night is Thursday, March 3rd at 6-7:30 pm at SF Running Company in San Anselmo. - 115 Tunstead Ave, San Anselmo, CA 94960. Athletes can get a 10% off discount and have professionals help them find the right spikes for their events.
With a huge team comes some growing pains. With our current stock of uniforms there is a chance athletes will only get a top or possibly be competing in a team t-shirt for a meet or two. Currently I think all athletes will get a singlet racing top but if not I will speak to these athletes directly.
We will be doing uniform handouts at lunch this week. In order to get a uniform athletes must bring a check for $100 dollars post-dated to June 1st 2020. When the uniform is returned at the end of the season these checks will be returned, if the uniform is not returned these checks are cashed to replace the missing uniform.
Bench Warmers was wonderful enough to buy us brand new uniforms but when I made that request I thought we would be at about 140 athletes. These new uniforms will arrive in April, Varsity boys and girls will be given the new uniforms and the best condition old-style uniforms will be given to JV once the new ones come in.
When the new uniforms come in some Varsity girls (relays & high jump have first priority) will have the option to buy spandex running shorts instead of using the uniform shorts. These cost $30 and are the athletes to keep.
We also ordered 140 t-shirts, these will be given to new athletes first and returners with shirts from other years will be asked to wait until the second-order of another 40 shirts come in. T-shirts are given to athletes to keep and are something the program buys with donation money.
Your athlete is responsible for their uniform and shirt, no replacements will be given, no new uniforms will be given to athletes who don't turn in their old uniform in the condition it was received.
Varsity will be contacted about team jackets at a later date.
**We need parent volunteers for this weekend March 7th. We need 4 parents to help Coach Nelson at the shot put. At each league meet teams are responsible for running an event, at the Willam Taylor Invitational and the MCAL meet near the end of season we are responsible for shot put. If you can help please sign up. Parent volunteers need to report to shot put at 8:30am at the shot put area (under the big oak tree) at the Drake track.
We are hosting the first league home meet of the season on 3/19. This is when we need the most volunteers. We are responsible for running all but two events for a home meet. This is a huge undertaking and our athletes desperately need volunteers for this meet to run smoothly. The coach at each event will train you on what to do. Our home meet starts at 3:30pm and volunteers will need to be onsite by 2:30pm.
Another area parents can contribute is car pool. We will need tons of drivers for our league meets and invitationals. The week of a meet athletes will be asked if their parent can drive to a meet and how many open seats they have and car pools will be made from there. Students will be told they are receiving a ride to the meet but unless they work it out with you before hand they need their own ride home.
We will be collecting any donations at the parent meeting and anytime during season. Checks can be made out to RHS Track and Field. We use this money for equipment, t-shirts, end of season awards, training equipment, and anything the team needs. We really appreciate these donations, especially now as we have been working tirelessly to replace old and missing equipment and purchase items to make sure that our athletes have the best training they can.
A huge part of high school sports is the positive characteristics sports can teach our student athletes, like responsibly and integrity . They should know what is going on with their team and if they don’t they should know their resources to find out answers, like the team website, their captains, their event coaches and after all these resources are exhausted, their head coach. Parents emailing coaches should be the last option. There are also a few parent volunteers who are open to answering questions for new parents since Track Meets can often feel like a different world. Athletes must log their abscesses in XCSTAT’s. Excessive absences will result in being cut from the team. Every athlete is expected to be at practice every day. This Track team is a family and we all owe it to each other to be the best teammate that we can be, contributing with our best efforts and our most supportive attitudes.
The team will be taking the year book photo on Thursday during practice. This will be available for purchase thru the Athletic office. Athletes need to wear their uniforms to practice on Thursday and to the meet on Saturday.
Uniform Handout Schedule:
ATHLETES MUST HAVE A CHECK TO GET A UNIFORM
Monday: Senior and Junior Girls (and varsity girls relays)
Tuesday: Sophomore and Freshman Girls
Wednesday: Senior and Junior Boys (and varsity boys relays)
Thursday: Sophomore and Freshman Boys
For the first time this year there will be a JV Championship meet on May 2nd. This will be held at San Marin and more information will be posted when we have it.
The meet schedule was updated this weekend on the website so please look for the JV championships and the Viking Invitational listed now.
Athletes there is a section on the website called, “Athlete Training Info” it has a general weekly outline of training so you can plan to be with your event coach a minimum of 1 day a week. Your running group has two hard days a week you must attend. Also there is a list of everyone on the team, their MCAL # that they must memorize and the event you reported wanting to run. Please check this list as soon as possible.
Thank you and welcome to the team,
Nicole Graydon
